Bolton: Horwich Town Councillor Andy Coward steps down from Brazley Ward

A Horwich Town Councillor is stepping down leaving a vacancy to represent the Brazley Ward.

Cllr Andy Coward is leaving his post as his work commitments mean he is no longer able to serve his constituents as he believes they deserve.

Mayor of Horwich Cllr Steven Chadwick said: “I would like to thank Andy for his contribution to Horwich during his time on the council and wish him all the best for the future.

“I know it wasn’t an easy decision to make to step down, but due to a change in circumstances it became difficult to attend.

“Stepping down now rather than waiting until May puts the people of Brazley first and will ensure Brazley will continue to have full representation going forward once the position is filled.

“All the best and thank you for your service to the people of Horwich.”

The decision to step down means that a new representative for the ward must be chosen to fill the gap until the next election in May.

A by-election will be called if 10 or more people in the ward write to the Returning Officer to request it.

If that does not happen, the town council will pick who they see fit from a list of candidates who put themselves forward, much like a job interview process.

To write to the Returning Officer, residents can email elections@bolton.gov.uk or send a letter to:

Returning Officer,

Town Hall,

Bolton,

BL1 1RU
