In October 2021, Toussaint’s mother, Mercedes Ramos Mathias, passed away at the age of 72.
The BFM TV host announced the sad news on his Twitter account and shared the heartbreaking story. Mercedes Ramos Mathias suffered a heart attack on the sidewalks of a road. Emergency service operators tried to revive her but failed.
“Thank you to the firefighters and SAMU of Paris, and also to the police of the 15th arrondissement of Paris, who acted quickly yesterday to try to revive my mom, who had suffered a heart attack in the middle of the street,” wrote Bruce.
“In vain… In this circumstance, your kindness and professionalism touched my heart,” added the television personality.
In a talk with BFMTV, the journalist revealed that he was close to his parents, particularly his mother. Bruce said he spoke to his mom on the morning of the day she passed away.
It’s one thing to lose your mother but another to see her dying on a sidewalk. It’s really awful… Someone on the street instantly rescued her and gave her a heart massage. When I arrived, the firefighters were still attempting to save her,” disclosed the media personality to the publication.

BFM TV host talked candidly about the pain of losing one’s parents. He said it was an absolute pain.
“It’s a terrifying vision, I must say. In these situations, there is no other way to describe seeing one’s mother dying on the ground,” said Bruce.
“Losing your parents is never easy. It’s far worse for the children we are and will become again at that point. I must add that it was a trauma in these particular circumstances. It was a difficult image to accept then,” remarked the media personality.
But after a while, Bruce told himself, “Well, anyway, this image, I will never be able to erase it from my memory because it is there, I wear it, and it is permanent. It’s like I’m always carrying a small bag.”
