In 1975, Gold wed Lilli Gold. Ashley and Seth, their two children, were born to them both.

For What It’s Worth: Business Wisdom from a Pawnbroker, Gold’s autobiography, was released by Penguin/Portfolio on June 1, 2013.

The book discusses his personal experience creating a prosperous pawn store, how anyone in any area may “think like a pawnbroker,” and how he accomplished it.

The book was placed #8 in the category of Hardcover Business Books for July 2013 and #4 in the Advice, How-To, and Miscellaneous category for the week ending June 30, 2013, on The New York Times Best Seller list.

On ABC’s Good Morning America on June 18, 2013, Gold, the book, and his “three simple steps to successful negotiation” were discussed.
