Who Was Bob McGrath?

The American actor, singer, musician, and children’s book author Bob Mcgrath was born on June 13th, 1932. At the time of his passing, he was 90. McGrath married his wife, Ann Logan Sperry, in 1958. When Sesame Street first aired in 1969, McGrath played the role of amiable neighbor Bob Johnson as a member of the show’s original cast. In 2017, he made his final appearance on the program, ending a career spanning over five decades on Sesame Street.

Throughout his childhood, he competed in singing contests in Chicago and on the radio and won, although he had planned to pursue an engineering degree. McGrath was encouraged to pursue music after high school, and he studied voice at the University of Michigan and the Manhattan School of Music in New York. The actor was born and raised in Illinois and attended the University of Michigan and Manhattan School of Music to study music. He also sang in the Sing Along With Mitch television show in the 1960s, where he began his successful international singing career.
