The 76ers have insisted that Ben breached his contract by not showing up for training and refusing to play during the pre and regular seasons. Ben has cited his mental health as the reason for his limited participation.

The 26-year-old Australian-American player had four years and $147m remaining on his contract when he wanted a trade.

During the 2020-2021 season, a holdout led him to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets, and he became the most-fined player in NBA history (more than $19 million).

The saga continues, and in April 2022, Ben filed a grievance to challenge the $20 million salary withheld by the 76ers this season. However, the two sides reportedly have settled.
