Is John Fetterman Arrested? What Did Pennsylvania Senate Candidate Do?
No, John Fetterman is not arrested. Despite the 2013 shotgun incident, the victim has never filed a formal complaint, and no charges have been made against John.
An incident from January 26, 2013, has resurfaced where John chased down and cornered an unarmed Black man with a shotgun.
John followed and caught 28-year-old Chris Miyares in North Braddock, pointing a gun until the Police arrived. He was the mayor of Braddock, Pennsylvania, back then.
Police said Chris was wearing exercise clothes and had headphones on. They said he was harmless without any weapon and released him without filing any charges.
An ad by Mehmet Oz-supporting super PAC American Leadership Action draws attention to the incident to make the case that John is “reckless, risky, and wrong” for Pennsylvania’s Senate.
In the video, we can see John saying that he did what he believed was right but might have broken the law in the course. However, it does not show his next words: “I’m certainly not above the law.”
Words on the clip say, “Fetterman was unapologetic.” The video has its comments turned off, and it is likely a political tool being used against the senate hopeful.
The then-mayor reportedly thought he heard a dozen gunshots nearby his home (it was kids shooting bottle rockets) and called 911. He then took matters into his hand, chasing the person he believed to be the gunman.
