On 26 March 2023, Tottenham Hotspur announced that their head coach Antonio Conte left the club by mutual agreement soon after the club’s exit from FA Cup and the Champions League.

The club’s statement reads, “We can announce that Head Coach Antonio Conte has agreed to leave the club. In Antonio’s debut season at the Club, we qualified for the Champions League. We appreciate Antonio’s efforts and wish him the best in the future.”

They also disclosed that Cristian Stellini would take the team as acting head coach for the remaining season with assistant head coach Ryan Mason.

Daniel Levy, the club’s chairman, stated, “We have a battle on our hands for a Champions League place. We have 10 Premier League games left.”

“We must work together as a team. To get the best result for our club and great, devoted supporters, everyone must step up,” the chairman added.

Antonio Conte Called Spurs Players Selfish

Conte’s final game as Tottenham’s head coach was a 3-3 draw against Southampton on 18 March. During the press conference after the match, Antonio said he sees selfish players who don’t put their heart into the game.

He also criticized the club’s culture. While explaining the Spurs’ current situation, the Lecce native remarked, “This is Tottenham’s story.” Twenty years there is an owner, and they have never won anything, but why? The fault is only the club or every coach that works here?”

Conte joined the Spurs as their head coach on November 2021. He signed an eighteen-month contract with the choice of a further year.

As reported by BBC, Antonio Conte’s departure means Tottenham Hotspur is looking for their fourth permanent manager in 4 years since Mauricio Pochettino left the club in 2019.

The Italian football manager had won league titles with former clubs, such as Juventus, Inter Milan, and Chelsea.
