Jacob Wetterling Missing: Parents Patty And Jerry Wetterling
Patty and Jerry Wetterling are the parents of Jacob Wetterling, a young boy who was abducted in 1989 in Minnesota and remained missing for over 27 years.
Following Jacob’s abduction, Patty and Jerry became outspoken advocates for child safety and worked tirelessly to raise awareness about missing and exploited children.
They established the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, which provides education and resources to communities to prevent child abductions and exploitation.
“The parents also advocated changing the laws related to child safety, such as the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and the Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act, which requires states to establish a registry of sex offenders.”
Danny Heinrich was arrested on child pornography charges, and during his trial, he confessed to kidnapping, sexually assaulting, and killing Jacob.
Danny Heinrich led authorities to Jacob’s remains in exchange for a plea deal that spared him the possibility of a life sentence.
Heinrich’s confession provided some closure to Jacob’s family and the community but also raised questions about why it took so long to solve the case.
Some critics argue that law enforcement officials failed to follow up on certain leads and should have focused more on Heinrich as a suspect earlier in the investigation.
