The graphic photo depicts the lifeless body of Maggie Murdaugh, clearly showing a fatal entry wound just below her left ear. Likewise, the photo was displayed on one of the prosecution’s screens during the state’s closing statements.

After the photo of Paul Murdaugh went viral on social media, people were horrified. Talking about his death, on June 7, 2021, Maggie and Paul were found dead in their Islandton, S.C.
On July 14, 2022, Alex Murdaugh was indicted for two counts of homicide. The former lawyer allegedly used a rifle and a shotgun to shoot his wife and son, according to authorities fatally.
Although he claimed he wasn’t home during the murders, prosecutors viewed this as a false alibi.
Paul and Maggie’s funeral occurred four days after their deaths on June 7, 2021.
The mother and son were laid to rest near their late family members, including Randolph Murdaugh and Randolph “Buster” Murdaugh, who were Paul’s great-great-grandfather and great-grandfather, respectively.

On March 2, 2023, the jury found Alex guilty of two counts of murder and possessing a weapon during a violent crime.
Following his sentencing, Murdaugh was transferred to Kirkland Correctional Institution in northwestern Columbia, South Carolina, for a 45-day evaluation period to determine his eventual placement in a maximum-security prison.
