ISD Elementary School: Teacher Charged For Aggravated Sexual Assault
John Collett, a teacher at Camey Elementary School in Lewisville ISD, was arrested on Wednesday by The Colony Police Department.
The arrest followed a report made by a parent last week accusing Collett of sexually assaulting a child.
As the news spiraled, Lewisville ISD sent WFAA the following statement on Thursday:
“Anytime accusations are made that someone has hurt a child, it is the very worst possibility we face. Mr. Collett was placed on administrative leave as soon as the district became aware of the allegations. While the police and legal system are now doing their work, our focus will remain on the wellbeing of our students. A specialized team of highly trained counselors are on campus today and will continue to support our campus and any students or staff in need in the days ahead.“
The Colony Police Department stated that they do not know other victims who have faced a similar situation.
However, they have urged anyone with information to contact their school resource officer at 972-624-3949.
The Colony is situated in Denton County and is located around 29 miles north of the downtown area of Dallas.
In a letter written to families within the district, Chantell Upshaw, Chief of Middle Schools in Lewisville ISD, stated that John Collett was put on administrative leave and was barred from entering any district facility.
Upshaw acknowledged that some students at Camey Elementary School might have been under Collett’s supervision and encouraged parents to ask questions if they had any concerns.
The allegations of sexual assault against a teacher are deeply concerning and disturbing.
The safety and well-being of students must always be a top priority, and any such incidents must be thoroughly investigated and addressed.
