In recent news, it was reported that the small country town of Chiltern in Victoria’s north-east has been left wondering following a devastating crash on the Hume Freeway on Thursday that left four people dead. Reportedly, at 10:30 a.m., a truck collided with a car near the intersection of Wenkes Road. It was believed there were four people in the car, out of which 2 couples aged in their 70s from central New South Wales were killed. In an update posted on Friday, Victorian Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing Glenn Weir said the group had stopped at Chiltern Bakery for a coffee and to rest for a break before they headed back onto the Hume Freeway at Wenkes Road. He added that they failed to give way at the intersection been struck by a B-double and had all been killed straight away.

Later, following the incident, the 30-year-old truck driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Mr. Weir said that they had interviewed the truck driver who was taken to hospital.
