DeAndre Hopkins was traded from the Houston Texans to the Arizona Cardinals on 16th March 2020 in exchange for running back David Johnson, a second-round draft pick, and a fourth-round 2021 draft pick.
The move was widely seen as a major coup for the Cardinals, as Hopkins is considered one of the best wide receivers in the NFL.
In his first season with the Cardinals, the athlete had an outstanding year, with 115 receptions for 1,407 yards and six touchdowns.
Additionally, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the fifth time in his career and was named Second-Team All-Pro.
Hopkins has been a crucial component of the Cardinals’ attack and developed a solid connection with Kyler Murray at the lead.
He has also contributed significantly to the squad by making contested catches and steadily moving the chains.
However, there have been ongoing trade rumors surrounding DeAndre and Arizona Cardinals. But as of writing this article, the athlete is currently associated with the team.
Here’s all that we know about Hopkins’ trade rumors and contract.
DeAndre Hopkins Trade Rumors And Contract
Responding to the trade rumors, the athlete said, “Of course, I’ve been hearing a lot about trade negotiations. But I’m a day-to-day kind of guy. I don’t eagerly anticipate the future.”
He added, “I’m a present-day person. I’m currently a member of the Arizona Cardinals squad and roster. I’m getting ready for whatever the future may bring. I’ll let you people talk about the future; I don’t really look forward to it.”
Deandre’s no-trade clause reportedly became void following his six-game suspension from last season, placing his faith in the hands of Arizona, a club that might decide to move on from Hopkins as it enters a rebuilding period.
The Dallas Cowboys’ deal for cornerback Stephon Gilmore and the team’s interest in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Arizona Cardinals are both discussed by NFL Network’s Jane Slater.
Talking about his contract, on 8th September 2020, Hopkins signed a two-year contract extension with the Cardinals worth $54.5 million, making him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.
The wide receiver’s 2023 and 2024 limits hit a total of $30.75 million and $26.2 million, respectively.
Moreover, the Cardinals might attempt to trade him, but he may need to modify his contract because teams would be hesitant to sign him with that cap hit in 2023.
The team still requires a new coach and GM, and there may be many other adjustments in store. One of those adjustments could be Hopkins leaving.
