Who was Robert Heikka? Deputies report that Robert Heikka, a missing teacher from Volusia County, was last seen in October 2020; his body was found inside a car.
According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, the car belonged to a Port Orange teacher who had been missing since October 25, 2020.
It was found in a canal near New Smyrna Beach with a body inside on Saturday afternoon. According to a sheriff’s office post published at around 8 pm, Port Orange Police are in touch with Robert Heikka’s family.
Still, a definitive identification of the deceased occupant discovered in the car that belonged to Heikka has not yet been made.
Less than 6 miles from Heikka’s neighborhood, a 2012 Chevrolet Impala with the Florida license plate KRZ-I78 was discovered in a canal off Pioneer Trail close to the South Tomoka Wildlife Management Area.

Who Was Robert Heikka? According to officials, Heikka, also known as Bob, has been a teacher at Port Orange’s Creekside Middle School since 2002 and has been employed by Volusia County Schools since 1989.
He currently teaches business education, which includes keyboarding and digital information technology.
Heikka is a Caucasian male who weighs 250 pounds and is around 6 feet, 2 inches tall. He has blue eyes, gray hair, and prescription spectacles.
Heikka may be operating his white 2012 Chevrolet Impala with the Florida license plate KRZ-I78, according to investigators.
Heikka, also known as Bob, has been a teacher at Port Orange’s Creekside Middle School since 2002 and has worked for Volusia County Schools since 1989, according to Port Orange Police.
Heikka was allegedly seen on surveillance footage in December 2020 at an ATM close to Canaveral Shores.
Heikka and his white 2012 Chevy Impala have been sought after by several law enforcement organizations, including the FBI, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Brevard and Volusia sheriff’s office, and Port Orange Police Department.
Dead Body Found In The Car Of Missing Volusia County Teacher
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has found the car that belonged to a teacher who vanished in 2020, and a body has also been discovered inside.
On October 25, 2020, Robert Heikka, a teacher at Creekside Middle School, is said to have vanished.
Heikka began teaching at Creekside Middle School in 2002 after working for the Volusia County School District in 1989.
The sheriff’s office in New Smyrna Beach reported that his car was discovered in a canal close to Pioneer Trail.
According to the deputies, one individual was discovered dead inside the automobile after being pulled out of the water.
Although a definitive identification has not yet been made, Heikka’s family has been informed, according to Andrew Gant of the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.
Gant reported that this afternoon, volunteer search teams alerted their office that they had discovered a car near New Smyrna Beach and that the tags on the car belonged to Robert Heikka.
Volunteers, Recon Dive Recovery, and Sunshine State Sonar sought to locate it.
Sunshine State Sonar’s Mike Sullivan claimed, “I saw what appeared to be the roof of the vehicle sticking from the water as I was coming around the corner we were walking down.”

Heikka’s whereabouts have been sought after since October 2022. They claim that Heikka’s residence is close to New Smyrna Beach, where his automobile was discovered.
